"The SANBio Network (a NEPAD STISA 2024 Flagship Programme) seeks to address some of the African Union (AU) and SADC priorities in biosciences research and innovation for the region. SANBio is currently being supported by the Finnish-South African Partnership (BioFISA) Programme aimed at strengthening regional collaboration in biosciences research and innovation amongst partners in Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Lesotho, South Africa, Seychelles, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The BioFISA Programme focuses on building a functional and sustainable biosciences network to encourage collaborative research and build capacity through training including entrepreneurial skills.

In this second phase of the BioFISA Programme, which began in April 2015 and will be implemented until February 2019, collaborative projects leading to marketable products in health and nutrition will be supported. Two grant structures will be implemented for flagship and seed projects, while a third grant structure (mobility grants) will focus on improving collaboration in the SADC region."
